i have an 08 6.4 PSD bone stock with lots of exterior mods. i am about to start working on the motor. i would like to leave the dpf on if possible and go with a new intake/exhaust and programmer. i was thinking of the mbrp exhaust s&b intake and edge programmer?
Those are all good products. Keeping the DPF on will result in its premature death. Adding your list of items has a damn good chance of voiding your warrant anyway, so why not just remove the DPF? = better performance, mileage etc.
are you saying the dpf will die? or it will kill the truck itself? and do you know if anyone has been caught without the dpf? i live in mississippi so i dunno how strict lawdawgs are on that type thing
Word on the street is that changing anything under the hood, including the Air Intake will void a guys warranty. I've even heard reports that changing the exhaust tips can void your warranty. That being said if you are going to start playing around under the hood then my opinion is go hard or go home. Either remove the DPF and tune it properly or leave it stock. There have been reports of DPF's filling with soot and dying if they are left on after using a programmer and yes I have seen one report where the Cat and DPF plugged off and the back pressure did a lot of damage to the motor as well. Not sure how accurate all these claims are as everyone knows a guy, that knows a guy that had it happen, but I wouldn't risk it. As for your local emissions laws, I can't comment on that. We don't have to deal with that in Canada yet and the only person I have to worry about being caught by is Ford.
A reliable source here just installed the Banks system on his truck. As I understand it, there is no re-programming and the DPF remains as part of the system.
If I ever do any mods it would likely be the Banks right now for that reason. The Spartan products look real good to me as well but I think they go deeper into the PCM programming while the Banks does not do anything to the PCM.
Personally, I need the DPF. I like the lack of soot on my trailers.
