Questions about Chips, Programmers, and pkgs

2005 F250 CC 6.0L PSD FX4 Lariat

My V10 with 4.30s had a lot more pep than this truck. I was wondering what a programmer or chip will do for me. I see a lot of kits that have these in combination with monitors, intakes and exhausts. Can you use just the programmer and stay otherwise stock or will it mess stuff up? Do these things shorten the life of the 6.0?

The kits you see aren't for chips and programmers. They work with the fueling boxes (different than a chip) from those companies. Fueling boxes have some pretty bad disadvantages, namely they have been reported to ruin some transmissions when used in the higher settings because they don't reprogram the transmission for the added power.

Your best bet is either a Diablo Sport Predator or Superchips Microtuner as they will program the engine and the transmission. If you want a fuel box/monitor combination you should also buy a SCT Xcalibrator2 which will take care of the transmission programmed. All available here: www.motorhaven.com

Yes, you can use the programmers with stock vehicles, they have settings for that.
