Hey guys. I went ahead and bought the Volant intake that you told me about and installed it. Honestly I do not see why its better than the other ones and the sound is ok but when you step on the gas I am getting a harmonic distortion that is not in the least bit attractive. It starts around `1900 RPM up to about 2200 RPM and then it goes to the roar you guys describe. It sounds and feels like vibrations thru the truck. Anyone else have this and what did you do to fix it.
Well tomorrow I am going to use one of my spare thick rubber mousepads under the filter box and see if that makes a difference. Anyone else have the plastic pipe actually touching the firewall above the throttle body?
Yup...got that too. Volant had a number of units ship with a badly molded pipe that resulted in an extremely tight fit. Some on here had volant replace the pipe free of charge. I muscled mine on and left well enough alone. If you think that's the issue you should be able to cut off a quarter of an inch or so to get it off the firewall. There was a post on here a couple of years ago about this issue...
i get that noise too i have mine bolted down and my plastic pipe does touch my fire wall too...i think it sounds sweet the sound it makes i always keep gasing on it to make that sound kills the mpg but oh well your only young once!!
Mine did the exact same thing. The tube would have touched the firewall if I hadn't trimmed ~1/4" off of the rubber coupling sleeve to let the tube sit lower.
I couldn't figure out how to get rid of that noise, so that's why mine is for sale in the classifieds.
Mine does it right before it gets about 2300 RPM. Above that its a good sound but its a harmonics like something is vibrating against the firewall or the metal. I have yet to try to fix it but as soon as I can I will. I do not think rubber grommets will work so I am going to put a hard rubber pad under the box then another one on the firewall next to the pipe. If that does not do it I will try something else.
