Why not contact Volant and get a new pipe so your pipe isn't up against the firewall?

I'm not real familiar with the Volant install, but the K&N I installed on my 05 PSD had rubber insulator bushings to mount the air box. You can try mounting the air box on a rubber pad and maybe bungy cord the pipe in different places to see what affects the vibration sound. I know it sounds crazy, but the cord may actually dampen the vibration enough to eliminate the noise. Once you can isolate where exactly the noise is coming from, you might be able to fabricate some sort of bracket or device to dampen the vibreation. Of course, you would want to make sure that the tube isn't touching anyplace that it shouldn't, like the firewall or hood.

I would take pictures and have Volant send you another intake tube.

it is not acceptable for that contact...and neither is having to customize the intake setup.

They've had no issues fixing problems for people in the past. You might have gotten unlucky and bought an intake that's been sitting in some warehouse for 2+ yrs

From Volant's Website:

"Manufacturers Warranty
Warranty: Volant products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year. Liability is limited to replacement of defective items only. Responsibility for Vehicle abuse or misapplication will not be accepted. No other warranty is either expressed or implied."

As long as you're within the one year it looks like you're good. I, however, am SOL. I see a dremel job in my future...

Nah. I am sure that a rubber pad under the box and behind the pipe next to the firewall should fix it. If not I will just send it back and buy something else.

Bungy should only be used to isolate where the noise is coming from. If it's harmonics or vibration, it can help with isolation of the noise. I would never suggest using that as a fix. Once I knew what was causing the noise I would be on the phone to Volant's customer service department for corrective action on their part. If they didn't satisfy my request about the problem, then I would demand a refund and return it.
