A guy I work with has a '75 F100 with a 360.Gas tank is mounted in the rear. When he puts gas in the filler he has to pump the gas in real slow or it starts running back out.(I mean real, real slow). The problem he's having is when he puts in a half tank of gas, puts the cap back on and drives down the road a little gas is coming out from around the gas cap and getting on the quarter panel.Any suggestions on this problem?
Checked the gas gauge to make sure it was correct. It only does when he puts in a half tank or more.Checked the vent tube for blockage-ran a tube thru the vent and when it gets to the gas tank it stop's,wont go all the way into the gas itself. sounds like it's hitting metal or something.Thought there may be a blockage in the vent tube but can't figure this one out.
Sorry for the long post but I'm tring to explain the problem the best I can. Thanks for the help guy's
Also, the syle of gas cap he has is on the outside of the bed(no gas door on this style). He bought a new cap also and that did'nt work.
The rubber fuel filler hose has collapsed / vent hose has separated, thus forcing a slow flow. Gas is pooling back up.
He will have to drop the tank and replace the filler hoses to solve this issue. Be sure to tape the filler hose and the vent hose together like glue. Not too tight. Tape in two places. Use friction tape for best results.
Make sure the gas cap is the correct, whether it be vacuum or pressurized.
