I'm planning on purchasing a DP Tuner one day, but first I need to start with adding guages to my 2001 PSD. I really like the look of the guages on the pillar I've seen in various pictures. The problem is, there is SO much information on this site, I'm getting confused on which guages I should be getting. The truck regularly pulls a 4000 lb boat and also a 4000 lb truck camper (those weight are probably a little high). I'm new to PSD's so spelling out the acronyms would be appreciated as well.
One more thing...I've been searching and reading FTE for a few months now and this is site and the people who participate are top-notch. I find most answers without even asking the question and I have learned a TON!
I went with the 3 guage piller pod and a set of Isspro guages from dieselmanor.com. they have a whole set per each truck. check it out, install was not bad, very good directions with color pictures.
General gauges are exaust gas temprature (egt, pyro), a boost gauge (not to sure it is absolutley nessisary) and a trans temp. The tranny temp will help you by not over working the tranny. I have the isspro ev gauges and like them. I bought them simply based on price and I felt like they were pretty good quality. Ig you go to sponsor sites they run specials on gauges and can get you a pretty close to everything you need.
What is a Boost Guage and 30#, 40#, and 60# choices?
It shows the amount of air pressure going in the intake, produced by the turbo. I went with the 30# my 04 maxes out at about 29# boost and i liked more movement of the guage, 40 would be ok too, but with a 60# you will only ever get 1/2 sweep of the guage.
Better to have the 60 if your modding. I don't like to peg out my gauges. I whish I would have gotten a higher egt gauge. Not that I stay real hot but I think mine only goes to 1300* which is to hot. I just don't like having gauges that are pegged out easily. It would be like having a spedo that goes to 75mph

I think your are thinking of our trucks with regard to the boost gauge. I don't think the 7.3s ever came with boost gauges, mine didn't have one nor a tranny temp gauge on the stock cluster on my 02. I wish I had put a tranny temp gauge on mine after what happened to my tranny. Even the 03s with the 6.0s didn't come with a boost gauge(or atleast some of them didn't).
OP: EGT, Boost, and Tranny Temp are the basic three that you are going to want. I tend to like long sweep, electric gauges. Long sweep because I like being able to easily determine what readings I'm getting, I don't have to guess what every tick mark means, or what the reading is in the white space on the gauge if the needle happens to be there.
I just went with a 4 gauge ISSPRO set from DieselManor. Got EGT, Boost, HPOP and Fuel PSI. I also use a MSD DashHawk (same thing as a Edge Insight) that reads from the OBD-II for oil temp, coolant temp, trans temp, and volts.
If you can, go with a 4 gauge setup and get a oil temp in addition to the 3 mentioned above.
I would actually suggest a DashDAQ and get analog probes for EGT, Oil Pressure, and Fuel Pressure and that way it's all in one device. Plus if you get the Ford Enhancement license you'll be able to read codes from all the modules and get all the sensors that ford has on the 7.3. On the 6.0, it can read codes from 9 modules(one of which I know the 7.3 doesn't have and that's the TBC module) and 460 sensors(some of which I know aren't also on the 7.3).
