Loose Steering
I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Extended Cab 4X4 that has developed a very loose steering at speed. At driveway speed it works fine. but on the road I can turn the steering wheel a 1/4 turn than there is a jerk when the steering catches up.
I have replaced the rack and pinon steering unit due to a leaking seal. After replacement I notices it felt different but I now has gotten to the unsafe stage.

Sounds like either a loose bolt at the union between the steering column and rack or air in the lines. To purge air find an large empty parking lot and do a series of left and right turns to work it out of the system.
