It looks like I'm going to have to replace all 5 actuators. I only have one door that is working now. I did the fix in the tech folder to them about 1 yr ago and they worked great, but my boys got in a fight over who was going to sit up front. 1 held the drivers button down while the other punched the code in the keypad repeatedly. I thought that I might get away with just changing the drivers door, but I don't think that is going to work now.
My question is this.... The replacement actuators look different than the originals, although they look like they might work. The originals are sort of L shaped and the replacements look straight. I've been checking out pics at a few different websites, i.e. napa, carpartswarehouse,am-autoparts.com
and another related question, I bought my truck used and did not get a key for the rear hatch. the lock acuator is burned out, how the heck do i get it open? can i get a key from a dealer?
i just got back from the dealer, he says the key for the hatch is the same as all the rest of the locks. is this true? i guess i'll try to spray them. if it is the same key, i'm worried that the previous owner may have broke a key in the lock as i can't get mine in very far.
Yes same key for the rear latch. You can unlock it by crawling through your Ex to get to the rear cargo area. Take off the two screws that hold the pull handle on the rear hatch. Then you can pull teh plastic cover off teh bottom of the hatch on the inside. You will be able to move the lock arm by hand.
i just bought 2 left side actuators off of ebay for $40. they are china brand. they work great. I also broke the one for the rear hatch and was in a bit of a hurry to replace it. I bought one from my dealer. cost me $47. after I replaced it, i looked and compared the china left side actuator to the rear hatch actuator..... they are the same. darn it, got screwed on that deal. still have one left side actuator. paperweight. i also had to buy a new latch for the drivers door because when i had to replace the door open switch, it still wont make contact with it unless i adjust the door lock far in so i pretty much have to slam the door closed.
Racer how did the back one break? Mine broke where it connects to the handle I zipped tied mine on through the two holes on the left side of the actuator works great. I know you already put a new one on yours but if yours broke in the same spot as mine you could switch it back in and have a spare.
I bought 3 actuators from E-PartsPal on Ebay at $20 each and when I discovered they didn't have that extra free play in the lever which wouldn't allow me to lock/unlock doors manually I tried to send them back but they wanted a 20% restocking fee so I threatened to give 2 neg feedbacks but they didn't care since they had 33,000 pos feedbacks so I am stuck with 3 paperweights. I then fixed 4 of the stock locks with the tinfoil method. The rear latch uses a different key but I think they had some problem with a break in before I bought it so I am limited to one door that works with a key now. Right door.
I'm in.... thanks vodkaman. much easier than I thought it would be. I tried spraying the lock with no luck. It doesn't look bad from the outside, but the key won't go in. It is pretty corroded on the inside. I never used it anyway, so I just disconnected the linkage to the lock.
I bought all 5 actuators on eBay for about $110 with free shipping. not near as bad as i thought it would be.
