I could have been a high school daddy. That was the year I graduated. I came close. My first son was born in 68.
Your dad had one heck of a career. They call the Korean War the "Forgotten War". Not much recognition for those who served there, and that is a shame. I salute your Dad for all his service.
Not totally forgotten, there's a pretty nice memorial in DC.....kind of eerie viewed at dusk, tho. (Tried to upload a photo about a dozen times, upload failed. Don't know what's going on, uploaded one this am to another thread, took a lot of tries, and this evening it was gone from the thread....).
A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”
The memorial in DC is very cool. It's basically a squad of soldiers made of stone that look like they're moving through an area. My recollection of it is pretty bad since I was little at the time. It looks like they are real soldiers if you view it at dusk.

Your right, "Not totally forgotten", but barely remembered.
This is a picture of the 19 stainless steel statues of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in DC.
It is a depiction of men on patrol
I just feel they deserved more. In 37 months over 54,000 Amercans lost their lives. In the three
years of the Korean War nearly as many Americans died as in the ten years of the Vietnam War.

And Korea and Vietnam combined can't even hold a candle to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWII.
How many here speak Japanese or German? If not, be sure and say thanks to those guys.
Now since we're off topic anyway, go buy a flag and hang it in front of you house if you don't have one. Considering what others have sacrificed, is it really too much to ask?

From my trip to DC with my son's 8th grade class in '06.
A bit of trivia for you guys. Do you know why there are 19 statues?
When viewed from the proper angle, the statues are reflected in the wall, effectively doubling the number of soldiers viewed to 38, representing the 38th parallel.

Sacrifices have been going on since 1776.......so many heroes I can't keep track of them....but honor them all. A flag? Nope, not one. Six smaller ones on the fence, TWO large ones on the house. Don't want to leave any doubt about it. Only been in this house little less than a year, but a good flagpole in in the plans. American flag on top, then second flag below..either PA, Air Force, or POW flags alternating, depending on mood. (Every house I ever owned ended up with a flag pole).
PS: Thanks to all who posted the memorial pics....I couldn't get mine to post.

well this is a fun forum. mine is malcolm657. malcolm is a nickname given to my after a bloodly game of airsoft with lots of beer involved. malcolm was a jester in an old Westwood Studios game, Legend of Kyrandia, for a sinister jester that killed the king and queen. kinda like me on a airsoft field so the nickname kinda stuck and i use it for everything now. for those that play any Command and Conquer games, Kane is the actor that
vocied Malcom in the game and hence how he started with Westwood. he is also Timothy from Lands of Lore 1. sorry long post. i like games and get carried away sometimes.
