Cleaning engine bay

So after looking at pictures of my engine bay and crawling in it for the past 2 days I realized how disgusting mine really is.

My question is this:
What product is safe to use on all parts of the engine bay? I believe that I read about Simple Green being bad on the aluminum.

The majority of the crap is oil from the CCV.

Simple Green is ok to use Pete. Oven cleaner is bad for the aluminum.

Thanks, Jim!

What's funny is that whenever I read your posts now I can almost hear you saying them.

Pete I used some Gunk engine cleaner on mine before going with the simple green. The gunk stuff really broke up the heavy stuff for me. Then I followed up with the simple green. Good luck, and you will sure be proud of the results!!

Really? I always wondered what other people hear when they read posts. So when you read this, do you hear your voice or mine?

Thanks. I plan on waiting til I have at least a solid day to clean it. Jim can attest to the fact that it's pretty nasty.

And unfortunately I won't have a solid day until Saturday after next.

Every time I've cleaned a Ford engine bay, I ruin a sensor. Most of the time it's the TPS because it never dries out. I don't chance it anymore. I would love to have a clean engine though; there's a wasp nest on the front cover somewhere I noticed the other day.

TPS? Throttle Position Sensor? That's *inside*... I hope you didn't get that one wet!!

I have been cleaning my engine for over two years, and have yet to bother anything. I used oven cleaner on my spider, too.

Turned this:

Into this (it was still wet went I took this pic):

Ha! Nope, I haven't cleaned this one yet! I shouldn't be comparing what happens to all the gassers I've cleaned to this one. You guys use a pressure washer, or just a garden hose?

MMMM Pete ask a simple question about cleaning his engine and you guys turn it into a "Oh let's make fun of Jim's ALLEGED accent" thread.

I'd give you greenies as a punishment but I'm on spread em around time out for all of you.............

Oh yes I can I threw the t-shirt out instead of trying to wash it, but I 'd be there in a heartbeat if you needed something else Pete!
