Chevy has had speed limiters since 1994 up untill the new body style though it has been a abrupt engine stall. Also after years of owning chevies the rattles come free with them as well. There are two issues with these trucks and one of them is the speed rating on the tires. The other issue is the two piece drive shaft. Sorry to hear about your issues and the brakes squeling is probably brake dust. Get a tuner that will ditch your speed limiter. And for the squeaks I had a chebbie dealer tell me to just turn up the radio and that would fix the rattles

Older governed cars before they had drive-by-wire, simply cut the spark - like a rev limiter. Newer gassers with electronic throttle valves just close the throttle once the governed speed is reached. All electronically injected diesels - even mechanically ones too just hold smooth at the governor.

Interesting. I've bumped mine more than once and it has yet to set the light or go in Limp-Home mode...

Hitting the speed limiter will set a code, something to the effect of "overspeed detected".

Not sure what years, what engines, or anything else.

But I've heard of it.

The rest is urban myth

They're talking kilometers per hour, not miles per hour.

My truck has a speed limiter set at 95 mph. If you want to go faster you need an aftermarket chip which eliminates the limiter. The limiter is there for safety reasons.

That's pretty fast, obviously different laws out west. Here in Ontario, if you are caught going 50km/h over the posted speed limit the cops take your licence AND your car for 7 days and you could possibly be charged with stunt driving. Actually charged with stunt driving or being an absolute retard, I believe it's the officer's discretion.

Marty,
I can understand your frustration or being upset with some of the issues with your new truck. I would be ticked off too but I haven't really seen you post a list of anything that warrants much being ticked off about. Ok the rev limiter thing, you by now know that it's there for a reason, you can get rid of it if you want to spend a bit more money and that 99.9% of us don't drive that fast, or are downright scared sh**less to.

The Fuel gauge yeah maybe it's a little frustrating as well as the interior noise but come on is this enough to give up on your Ford? Having 28 Fords in the past and you didn't have a problem with any of them?

Have patient's, maybe your not having luck with the dealer properly addressing your specific problems.

Many dealers may not treat some of the smaller issues with respect or want to spend time on what they refer to as "non-problematic" issues. Try another dealer if possible even if you have to drive a bit further. Call the service manager and explain your problems in detail and the other dealership didn't help you with service. Dealerships love to compete with each other especially in these difficult times.

Also Give us a list of all the specific problems you have had with it and give us some details on what engine/tranny/axle etc..

The truck has been a disappointment from the day I got it.

A couple days ago was heading to clearwater, pulled out to pass a rig on a short passing stretch, and was just pissed that it just drops dead at 146 kms/hr.
I thought it would pull to at least 160 before it hit the limiter.

Oh and by the way, it was not towing, or hauling anything but me when I was passing him...So no worries on having to stop some 15,000 pound trailer.

Although I do think I had a tape measure, bottle of Coke, and a camera in the truck...so I gues it had some cargo.
160?!?! It's not a Mustang. It's a 10,000+ LB. truck!

Since he's in Canada, I'm assuming that 160 is km/h. Still, 100 mph is kinda pushing it

Be careful for driveshaft whip at high speed. I've heard that happens on vehicles with 2 part driveshafts, like our trucks.

We have a "short passing stretch" in front of our house, last Monday we sat on the porch and watched the firefighters cut the lifeless body of a young man out of his Mustang that was wedged under a truck that was coming the other direction. He tried to get to town a few seconds quicker, and now he is dead, and families are destroyed...for what?

Im not trying to lecture you, Im sure you have a mother for that, Im just saying, be careful.
