Those of you with aftermarket temp gauges, whats your normal opperating temp?
I just installed one in the side of the water pump and its reading 240 to 250. I use the same gauge for tranny temp (switched) and it is right on with what my programmer shows. Could my sending unit be screwed up?
Those temps seem high to me ! We just put a water temp gauge in Ryan's truck.. it reads under 200 and when it hits 203 the thermostat opens and it goes back down ! (i think thats how it works) Your sending unit could be screwed or your temps are just that high !! If they are that high I would make sure your thermostat is working !
Thats what I'm wondering. The factory gauge on the dash just reads normal, about half way up.
That one always just reads half way !! POS in my opinion ! Ryan's Ispro moves all over and the stk one stays in the middle !! I think its like an idiot light !! Only moves when its way to hot !!!!
A bad ground could cause either. These sensors run on a milivolts & resistance so any impedement will throw them off. Make sure that the grounds and all other connectios are clean and tight. If it is ok with the trans temp then it is a sending unit issue. clean the ground and check it again.
Remove the teflon fape and try copper based antisieze to help seal the threads. It is conductive and should solve your problem. Clean threads on socket and sensor completely.
