The VIN will not tell you everything. F15 just means F150, not what trim or options on the truck. The vin will tell you model, engine, build plant and sequence number.
The door tag will offer more info, but not all options either.
The punch card has the same info as a build sheet, just takes more to decipher.
You guys need to lighten up on the newbees!!!! We were all new here once and didn't like smart *** answers then and I do not care for or will tolerate them now.
I know the VIN wont tell you everything, i said the VIN and everything else on the VIN plate such as color code etc., and i totally agree, we need to lighten up a little guys! I dont remeber it being anything like this when i joined!
Hmmm - I found my punch card last night and I did a search and came up with this very recent thread I somehow missed.
Good thing I didn't ask someone to decode it. If you guys are this harsh on a newbie - I couldn't image the crap I'd take for it
Anyways - in looking at this thing you should be able to decode it. It has the VIN on it and then 80 lines of "options" or #'s that are punched 0-9
Yeah these aren't as easy to "decode" as a build sheet, but this punch card I found (taped to the back of the dash - under the glove box) is in much better shape than the build sheet I found 6 months ago.
I'm willing to bet this thing tells pretty much the same info (much more than a VIN tag). Now to figure out if a key exists for these things. I doubt I will find anything though...
