I have some questions about getting my tranny rebuilt.
I have a 94 F150, 4.9 with the E4OD. When I purchased the truck it had a vibration when driving it. It was a good price and I thought I would just work on it.
I changed the tranny fluid and it seemed to help the vibration but it was still there. It is now coming back, a month after the fluid change, just as strong as it was before.
When I pull the codes on it one of the codes says excessive converter slippage. The tranny is obviously slipping.
My question is....
Is it possible to replace only the converter?
Around how much could I expect this to cost when I take it in?
What else could I do to fix it?
Does anyone have any tips/or ideas on the cost? I really would like to keep the truck. I hate the idea of selling it to some that will not take care of it the way I would. I hate to see one of these get scrapped. I really hate the idea of taking it to a tranny shop and then getting robbed because I don't have a clue about the tranny.
Search out a good shop. Get referrals, check the BBB if they are alive in your area.
BTW, it is possible to replace only the converter. With the transmission out, and the miles and age, some kind of inspection and parts replacement would be wise. Beware another false economy as these are well into $2500 or better transmissions as a rebuild if what I have seen is the going rate.
