i've a 2008 f-550 cab/chassis welding truck and it can regen 2 or 3 times in 150 mi. some time highway miles. does anyone besides me think this is in excess. this is my 4th supper duty and i hope i didn't make a mistake.
That is excessive. I have owned my truck over a year and I think it only came on 3 times. I only drive my truck long distance and highway miles and that is possibly the reason why. I knew when I bought this truck that I was not going to use it for short in town trips. No diesel was built for that and that is why I have a second vehicle that is a gasser.
You basically only have two options in new diesels. The Ford and Chevy use a DPF and the Dodge Ram 3500 uses a egr system that robs the engine of a lot of power. The Ford engine is the best out there and it is the way of the future so we have to learn to live with it.
I wish they would of left diesel engines out of this emissions control B.S.!!!
regen is a process to clean exhuast filter which has accumalated soot.
soot is carbon...unburnt hydro carbons
it gets in the cumbustion process as a result of unbrunt fuel and/or unburnt oil blow by that gets pass the rings...the dirtier the oil..the more soot it contains.
you can reduce this by
1. using a fuel additive that increases cetane rating....opti lube is one brand
2. weather permitting, review oil options and use the thichest oil for the time of the year...during warmer months 15w40 instead of 5w40, during colder months 10w40 is good to 0 degrees and will reduce oil consumption better than using 5w40.
3. you can add a methanol injection system for about 500 bucks which will give you cleaner burns, more HP, and a cooler running engine.
4. some folks delete their DPF, by in a lot of locations, thats not an option due to emmssions testing and/or road side spot checks by EPA/DEP police.
