It havs been a while since I have been on hear. This has probly been aks a hundred times. I have a 01 F150 supercrew 2 wheel drive with a 5.4 that I am going to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter on. How much fluid will I need to put back in it doing it this was?I want to make sure I buy the righ abount when I get it. An the manual said to use MERCON V ATF I thought I read on here a while back that you could not find it anymore. How di I find out which tansmission I have in my truck? Thanks Tim
if its a 4r70w you will need 5 qts if its a 4r100 you will need 6.5 qts.the 4r70w has a almost square pan and the 4r100 has a rectangle pan with a corner cut out on the pass. side.

if you remove the ppan, you need 5 quarts. if you look under the bell houisng thru the 2 inch diameter hole, the torque converter has a small drain plug, about the size of a 1/8 pipe plug. you may have to bar the flywheel around with a big screw driver on the teeth to get to the plug. The converter holds 8 more quarts if you drain that. If you have never changed the oil, it would be a good idea to do the converter also. If you remove the plug, loctite it back in. The oil is MERCON V. That is the new stuff. The old MERCON is what is being phased out, not the newer V.
