Tail light gremlins

I have continuity from tail light wire, (brown conductor at the headlamp switch), to the lamps. I can power them by jumping 12 volts to this conductor. However, they will not light with key on and headlights lit. Tried two different headlamp switches.
Headlamps, parking lights, directionals all work, but no tail lights.

What am I missing?

What taillamps do you have on this truck?

Are they the "shield" type used on Flaresides, or something else?

Do you still have the original factory headlamp switch?

If so...what is the ID number on it?

1965 F Series trucks used FOUR different headlamp switches.

I hate to be a nagging SOB, but one of these days you are going to understand you do not have a pickup truck!

You have a SPECIAL ORDER MODEL 85 OPEN DRIVE AWAY ICE CREAM TRUCK.

Some parts for this model are not going to be the same as pickups used.

And...because it was a special order...there may not be parts catalog listings for some of these parts.

Wiring diagrams used on pickups or cab & chassis models will not be the same, because Open Drive Aways have no cab, no doors, no in-cab fuel tank, nothing related that a pickup or cab & chassis has.

The dash wiring can and will be different.

Recently tracked down electrical gremlins on 65 flareside and damn if the rear driver's side taillight bulb socket assembly, which consist of spring, lead and contacts, was grounding out the circuit to both rear taillights. Seem to recall reconditioning them few yrs. back but no hope for another time around. Ended up replacing both taillight assemblies, although, replacement sockets are available. Tracked down many electrical gremlins on the truck over past 35 yrs. and first time came across the socket as the problem, certainly had me scratching my backside,. Anyhow, may want to check it out.

I hear you Bill, I know it's a rare bird. But just trying to rewire and equip it with basic Ford parts. Tail lights are Napa truck-lites, 2 conductor lamps with metal body. Tail light harness is reproduction, 3 conductor. Headlight switch is Motorcraft SW-504 C5TZ-11654-B. I also tried another new in box with the same part number.
As I said before, I can light the tail lights from jumping 12 volts to the brown conductor at the headlamp switch. The problem appears to be no power leaving the switch for this circuit. I do have headlights, parking lights, and directionals front and rear.
Be nice or there'll be no ice cream for you.
Thanks,
Ken

Headlight switch is Motorcraft SW-504 C5TZ-11654-B / Marked: C5TB-11652-B

But .. there are THREE other possibilities! That's why I asked you if you still have the old switch.

OK...you gotta deal. The next time I'm visiting my aunt in Sandwich, I'll swing on by.
Thanks,
Ken

C5TZ11654A .. Headlamp Switch (Motorcraft SW439) / Marked: C5TB-11652-A

C5TZ11654C .. Headlamp Switch (Motorcraft SW718) / Marked: C5TB-11654-A

C5DZ11654A .. Headlamp Switch (Motorcraft SW435) / Marked: C5DB-11654-A

Which one is correct?

I dunno. What is the ID number off the original switch?
