My wife and I are moving in 2 weeks and we need some boxes to pack our belongings in. I know U-Haul sells boxes, but they are something like $3-$5 a piece. I'm going to check with Walmart and the grocery store to see how I could get some boxes from them, hopefully for next to nothing. You guys know of other stores/places that might be good to check?
If you have any local Autozones, you might find out what day their truck shipments are, we get a bunch of real good boxes on truck days... many stores that get good volumes of business and receive truck shipments weekly will have an influx of them. We don't have a crusher/baler at the store, it all gets shipped back to distribution more or less loose.
Bets boxes are form family Dollar they have them daily and love for them to leave the premises. They are almost always sturdy as all giddy up and they even have some with dividers, partitions etc.
Best of luck on the move.
Try any retail store, however when I worked at sears I know that as we emptied boxes, we generally broke them down and threw them right into the baler.
If you go to the grocery stores ask for bannana boxes they are sturdy. If there are any lagre apartment complex that have a lot of people moving in and out, their cardoard recycling area usually has a bunch of moving boxes that people have thrown out.
Apple boxes, none better. Most of mine are on their third move, and right now with a smaller truck they are getting emptied and shuttled back and forth, there are some that probably have a dozen loads on them now.
Bars and restaurants--especially fast-food joints. McDonald's boxes work very well (a good friend's son is a store manager, so I can get all the boxes I'll ever want or need).
Try body shops lots of strong cardboard boxes that can be cut down and using a small box as a design model you can make what ever size you need. BTW small to medium boxes are easier to carry when full. A large full box is difficult to carry and does not stack well.
Why not go to walmart or some cheapo place and buy some big plastic tubs with lids. Then you can label them and use them for air tight storage later. They will come in handy and you could get 6 or 8 big 30 gallons size for 20 to 25 bucks
I work at Tractor Supply and on freight night we crush a buttload of boxes, and everynow and then if we get a heads up, we will save a pickup load of boxes for someone wanting them.
