My tailgate handle seems to stick. There is no springing back into posistion. Is there something I can grease up to help this? All the hardware looks to be rust free. Thanks.
When i first got my 73, I coated everything on the tailgate that had a moving part w/ liquid wrench. Everything that was sticky freed up & I haven't had to do anything else to her since then, as far as the tailgate.

Nope, just put the straw on the can & sprayed everywhere there were moving parts. I figured i should try that before tearing the guts out of my tailgate. It worked fine.
the tailgate parts are not hard to remove if there is salt/corrosion a wire brush and wd40 [or simular works good] the time spent will be worth it and it will work like new back in the day i seen many a tailgate being opened with a pry bar due to bent or broken handles or rods for this reason
if you partly remove the handle you will see 2 green plastic clips holding the rods [1 on each side]look very carfully and you will see they just twist back releasing the rods it is tight and hard to see the clips will stay on the handle udo the bolts at each end of the tail gate and the rods latches will pull out i wish i had a pic to show any one else care to help out with this [pics] regurds joe
