my 85 f-150 came without the key to the door so i cannot lock it..it hasn't posed a problem as of yet but i would feel much more secure if i could lock it...anyone know of any quick cheap fixes for this....already tried putting auto locks in....no luck had to send em back....200 bucks for a locksmith not happening
Take the cylinders out and take them to a locksmith.
They can pull the code off of it and make you keys for $30 tops. If they can't read the code, they have master keys and can still make you new keys cheap.
There is one spring clip that holds them in when you open the door. You can see it and remove them without taking the door panel off.
ahhh good call...just got back from the bone yard today...i guess i will go back tomorrow and look for one with keys...or take the cylinders to a lock smith....thanks alot
I would go to a junk yard, find nearly any 80-96 Ford truck with the keys in it and grab the cylinders and key for about $5.00 out the gate.
That's what I did with my truck.Same price for me too.The hard part is finding a truck that has the right keys for the locks.I had to go through close to 16 trucks til I found a truck with matching keys.
I just did the same thing with mine. I had no keys. I went to Autozone. I bought a new pair of lock cylinders with keys for $17.00. I was surprised they had them in stock.
I also bought my truck with no keys what so ever. I checked around town and found advance auto has the best prices and bought both door locks with keys for $10 and the ignition cylinder and key was $12. I would suggest gong this direction and save a little time and sweat instead of having to search the yard.
