My engine valley is full of oil, crud, trees and dead birds.
No seriously , its filthy. Im not sure if it was from the previous owner not giving a stuff when he filled the oil or I have some other issue.
I took my IC spider out and cleaned it as best I could but all that did was show me how bad it is. I have been spraying a water based degreaser in there and using a garden hose (low pressure), but Im getting no where.
Can I use a more powerful degreaser with a high pressure cleaner ?
Whats the best way to clean it out.
I had leaks and I had a dirty engine.
Hope you capped off the intake plenums real good!! There's nothing down there that can be hurt with higher pressure water... BUT, you have your intakes right there, as well as the UVC harness that plugs in right there next to it. A lot of care will be needed to make sure you don't A) Blow chit into your heads, and B) Blast high pressure water at your wiring.
Go to the Dollar General Store and pick up a bottle of Awesome cleaner and degreaser! Cost 99 cents!! Stuff works great. For you Rv folks this stuff will take off that black crap water stains without hurting the gelco!
Dont use oven cleaner. It is way to damaging to some metals, i learned the hard way on some aluminum and it actually cracked it. It might sound crazy but I use WD-40 to clean a lot of things. It will help loosen that stuff in there so you can wipe it out. JMO.

Good points guys. Like I said I never tried it but this old timer said that he used it on his old gassers.
In the dollar stores there is a simple green knock off called Mean Green. It works very well also.
Spray carb cleaner on it, let it soak a bit, then sop out as much as you can with rags. Discard rags. Now spray with brake parts cleaner heavily so it runs out the drain hole in the back. Now hose off gently with low pressure water hose. Done. Really cuts the oily mess.
If you want the absolute best cleaner/degreaser known to man try this Landa Detergents - L-219 Super-Duty Degreaser it is 49.95 for a 5 gallon bucket, it will last you a lifetime, use a spray bottle or a small sprayer to apply, let sit for a few minutes and rinse off with water. this stuff is used in the cleaning of restaurant hoods, filters and grease traps... melts oil, grease, grime off like butter... a buddy of mine has been in the steam cleaning business for 20 years and turned me on to this stuff. nothing even comes close to working like this stuff. they dont make the 219 anymore but the 217 or the dynamite is the same stuff, its just not listed on there website. just locate a dealer close to you from there website and give them a call, i believe you can get a smaller 16oz bottle for like 6.95..
I have a can of brake cleaner, but it says to stay away from plastic and painted surfaces
Cant get simple green here in AUS I have asked everywhere.
I think I will try the WD40 and keep chipping away at it. The extension on the spray can will get in those tight places.
