O/T......rodent problem

Today I decided to fire up my Hotrod(31 plymouth 3w coupe) and take her for a cruise.....nice sunny day and all. It's been sitting in the garage since last fall, but it fired right up. Thats when I smelled something funny, or as it turns out, not so funny.....MICE!!! Sure enough, after a quick look around, I see about a hundred little "gifts" on the carpet. Car smells really bad, too. Can't see any evidence of holes chewed any where though. So then I open the trunk to check.......and I find a bunch of cat food! WTF? Must have been their winter stash. I put the cat in there.....it ate the cat food but didn"t seem interested in looking for mice...

So now what do I do? The car has a custom cloth interior....I hate to pull it all out, but I think I might have to. AnyBody got any ideas? How can I get rid of that smell? Any advise is welcome. Thanks, T/M

opened up my flathead and found their stash in the water jackets, lol. Had a nest destroy the heater core in my plowtruck, too. But worst of all, they destroyed my trailer house. There's no denying the smell when you open the door. Anything that soaks, will absorb the smell. I wish I had an answer, but I think you might have to remove the interior and soak it in some sort of cleaner if you want it completely gone. FWIW, I also use Bounce fabric softener sheets to keep them away.

Well...you could try the mouse hotels,..the 'sticky-traps'...less blood that way...no stains..

Or you 'could' put the cats litterbox in the trunk, toss in the cat, slam the lid and come back in a week...might just get rid of one odor and gain another..,I feel for ya...

The wife said the other day she saw a mouse in the shop while I was at work, so she goes to the store and picks up a couple of 'victor' mouse traps..loads them with peanut butter ( I told her 'GREAT!..if the trap won't get'em the salmonella WILL!)..she says'she got one set..but couldn't get the other,...no problem,I set it.and wthin 20 miniutes it goes off one down....4 days later, the other trap is 'still' unsprung...What! ?? only one mouse in here?? Upon closer inspection of the trap, she had" some-how " stuck the trip lever' ..into the bait in such a way that I aLmost had to use a pair of pliers to get it disconnected.....it would never have gone off!! Ha Ha!! I need a cat!!!

For the smell, try a ozone machine. Used by apartment rentals to eleminate pet smells.

They like chocolate kisses too...in the wrapper .. set on the trap. No kidding! The crafty ones can even open the wrapper without tripping the slammer. But they end up being the lonely ones just the same.

Ha, you're lucky they didn't eat anything! When I bought my car they where living in my headliner, and then used old cassette tapes as bedding under my back seat...

I haven't tried it but a member on the VMF mentioned taking milk jugs, filling them about half way up and leaving them open. They go in for a drink and can't get out. Not a quick way, but a cheap way :\

We had a pop up camper we stored in a shed in the back of the farm without problem for 2-3 years but one year when we pulled it out for the season the clothe top was completely destroyed by the mice. There were half a dozen 6" holes chewed in it. We called the insurance agent to report the damage and were informed by the agent that they didn't cover mice damage so asked about the wild animal damage coverage listed in the policy and he replied that would only cover damage by animals like raccoons because they can cause a lot of damage. I told the **** to come out and take a look at the mouse damage and he just blew me off. We called the company direct and was told the damage was covered without a problem and asked who told us it wasn't covered. A few minutes after getting off the phone with the insurance company we got a call from our agents office, not the agent himself, but his office person informing us they we mistaken and they were sending a adjuster out to look over the damage. They ended up paying for the damage.

We made a major mistake in trying to protect the new clothe from the mice. I put mouse poison inside the camper, thinking if the mice got in they would die but this only drew them in and again, they torn the camper apart. This time the insurance agent again gave us the same song and dance about mouse damage not being covered, I got them to cover it and then dropped the agent.

With my old trucks I spread a box of fabric softener sheets, a suggestion from the RV dealer, throughout the trucks. At that concentration the smell hurts my nose. I stuff them in the seats, drape them over the seats and stuff them in glove box. I then throw a few poison cakes on the ground outside the trucks. I haven't had a problem with mice in the truck since I started doing this.

trap fix

use a 30 gal metal garbage can, fill it with 3-4 inches of water, get a piece of 2x4, put a metal hook on the end. run the 2x4 from the top of the can to the ground at approx 45 degree angle. smear peanut butt on wood and down the edge of the can. Within a week you will have gotten rid of all the mice, rats or ground squirrels (here in AZ) that chew up wiring and interiors

no more mice

Effective! It's what we have at the shack...except w/antifreeze. There's several older threads on getting rid of mice, but not sure of any older threads on getting rid of the smell. Living in the country does have its downsides, lol.

I load up my storage barn with mothballs every fall, along with some poison cakes, seem to put a stop to the rodent invasion.
