There are some industrial odor eliminator products that work (although Febreze is pretty effective for a home product) that are used by hotels to get rid of smoking and other odors. Check with a local commercial cleaning supply company.
If you don't like killing 'em, Havahart makes humane box traps. There is a risk that you or some family member will want to keep them as pets, though. Peanut butter is good bait.

shoot set a 5 gal bucket on the ground and fill it up halfway with like used cooking oil from a deep frier and in a couple days there will be dead mice floating in it....... notice that i didnt even try this to catch mice actuallly it was sitting on the tailgate of an f250 and those little varmits made it alll the way up with no help
Mice and rats are crafty little things. Food for thought:like cats, they can squeeze through any hole their head can fit through, the rest of their body can compress.
You can knock them out with dry-ice. Drop a couple of pieces in a bucket of warm water and set it in the seat. The CO2 from the ice, forces the Oxygen out slowly putting them to sleep. (I use to work in a reaserch lab that did it that way.) Your door seals will have to be pretty good, to keep the gas in. The only down side is you will have to find the carcasses, or else you will have a completely different kind of the smell on your hands.
