Okay, yes, I understand what you are saying powerstroke. Money wise I am not quite sure what I will be able to afford yet, I was just seeing your opinion and why you personally perffered them over body lifts. Just trying to gain knowledge about it before I start researchin it, ya know? Ford 6, yes I am very aware of that, but I was trying to get other peoples opinions first. Regardless if the EB is 2 or 4wd, I am probably going to go for the 93 ex cab on bottom first after talking to the lady about it and see if they'l go down some. Her dad owned it and is currently in a nursing home and he is older and it's a 2-person owner, the first owner was also an elderly couple, so since it was more of elderly people that have owned it I would much rather buy from them. It also sounds like it is in good condition. I will find out fairly soon though. As far as gearing I am assuming that it is highway gearing in that truck correct? I asked her, but she does not know.
About the ranger honestly that is smart money wise, but I have driven one of those, and honestly I just would hate not having a full-size truck and I would end up selling it. Besides that, I pull trailers for my dads company sometimes and when his hd2500 isint here I have to use my truck which I know on a truck like this is probably not the best thing on it, but a ranger literally would not pull them.
Also, my parents give me a little gas money and I have a job, so yeah.
Sounds good. Keep us posted on your decision and like I said, those are just my personal preferences...It'll be your truck so get what you'll be satisified with. Best of luck.
I just thought of another question. When getting a lift what size lift should I get for 33" tires? (They tires will also be a little bit wider) I like the looks of the tire/lift ratio sort of like this picture: http://images.truckinweb.com/tech/su..._side_view.jpg
I personally think a little bit more lift and a little bit bigger tires would look better though.
Also how hard would it be to install a body lift? What about a suspension lift? I want to do it like I said before, but would you guys just suggest have a professional do it or try it myself?
That looks to be 5-6" lift and 36" tires. 2-3" will clear 33s.
While I wouldn't recommend it, I have put 34x9.5" TSL LTB tires on a 2wd F100 with only slight rubbing on the front. They fit a 4x4 Bronco without problems, on the stock rims.
Okay, so if what would you recommend for 33's? 4 inch? I was going to either get a 3 or 4 inch lift, idk weather i'd get suspension or body, that depends on where I stand money wise after I purchase a truck. Wait, you put 33's on stock rims??
Well, i''m getting a truck in its early to mid 90''s (either k1500 *or* f150, which ever I can find a good deal on) and I would like to run 33''s, but no bigger. I will either get a body, *or* suspension depending on where I stand money wise. So let''s say I were to go with the body, then what do I buy to also raise the bumper? (My friend said I can just get a larger filler panel, is the correct *or* no?) and how much of a lift should I get for 33''s regardless if it''s a body *or* suspension lift?
How hard is it to install them yourself? How much extra would it cost approx for someone else to install a body lift? How about suspension? (The truck that I am have good feelings towards and going to look at is a 1993 4x4 F150 ext cab, 1 person owner by and elderly man)
Also she said that she believes in the truck that I am looking at the gearing is 3:55. What would be the largest tires that I should be putting on there with that gearing? (I don't really have enough money to be changing the gearing, as much as I would like to)
Okay, I bought that Ford F150 for $2800.00 yesterday. I have not really had time to look at it, but I believe it is 3:55 as far as gearing and it is a 5.8 liter V8. It has slight rust right by the running boards and a little bit on the wheel wells. What is the best and cheapest way to fix that? What all are my options as far as fixing that? (Perfferably myself) What are the largest and widest tires in metric that I should be running with that gearing? (Don't have the money to be changing it, and a lift, and tires/wheels) It has stock everything that I see.
It has a new muffler, but it is clamped on instead of welded so it leaks through the exhaust so it sounds wierd when you rev it up, I think if I tighten it then it won't do that, is that correct or not?
As far as the body lift my friend was telling me that there is two parts, one for the body and one for the bed. Is that right? What brand should I be looking at? I want to put it on myself and I have a shop and boards I could use. I was going to just make a little pully system and hook the ropes to the top of the boards in the shop and hook them to the boards to lift the body, or something along those lines. Any suggestions for that?
Don't do a body lift, they are crap. I have seen time and again body-lifted vehicles that got in minor collisions loose the cab off the frame. Not too good for the person sitting in the cab-
Save your money, drive it for a while, and then do a real lift, put in lower gears to handle the larger tires, or upgrade the axles.
just so you know theres a lot more to a lift then just putting something between the frame and the axles, or between the frame and the cab...
for a suspenion lift, you are going to also have to get modified (extended drive shafts) and suspension allinment... along with brake lines... (and i think) some sort of spacer for your steering... same with the body lift, you are going to need the spacer for your steering... possibly lengthen your shifter cables and your speedo cables... so before you jump into this project, find everything you need, buy everything first, then do it...
and congrats on the new ford... thats the body style i want... except i want mine either red or black... running 33s or 35s... with a 4-6 inch suspension lift... and it has to be extended cab... a desile
When adding a body lift to a 1993 F150 4x4 ext cab long bed what all do you have to get besides the lift itself as far as parts go? What is some good brand lifts? I will do more research, but I figured it would be easiest to have you guys help out. (I'm getting a 3 in body lift)
Do not use project vehicles/toys for daily transportation to work/school/etc unless you have alternate transportation or really like walking. Get your daily ride in solid, reliable shape.
As for body lifts, use Grade 8 bolts. You can lift the body easily with some pieces of 4x4 and a floor jack.
