So instead of spending the 2 or 3 hundred dollars on a name brand intake i went to Gott's. Found that someone came up with the procedure to replace the intake silencer that goes into the fender with a 3" diameter pvc pipe.
I must say I completed this modification to no avail. is there a reason for this? the only step i forgot to do was disconnect the battery to reset the computer to get used to more air flow. good this be a problem.
anyone else out there try this? don't get any lights so i plan on leaving it either way. just another thing i can say i did to it.
i did a similar mod. it give a little more throaty sound, but dont expect mileage or power increase. remember, running down the highway the motor is turning 1600 RPM. NOBODY makes an intake system that will cram in more air and get you more mileage at a crusing speed. Now if your reving to 6000 RPM and cant get enough air, thats another problem. At least you didnt wast your money on a $300. "snake oil" intake filter.
Do the reset. You could be running lean and that can burn pistons. A internal combustion engine is a vacuum pump on the intake side and opening the airflow path can only help by reducing the energy lost overcoming the restriction. The atmosphere is a fluid (although a thin fluid) and the physics of Fluid Dynamics apply.
the computer is resetting as it speaks. i only took it around the block yesterday about a 5 minute drive. I understand that the gains are at high rpm just giving me something to do over the summer home from school. looking to crank the torsion bars sometimes now that i found the bolt to do it. I was looking all over for the thing, who would have thought it would be at the end of it.
Has anyone on here removed the silencer inside of the intake ductwork? It's in the elbow and I read some places where they removed it. I was looking to do this but fear of it running real lean because it comes after the MAF. Anyone?
