429 EFI Project

well guys ive got a new project !! im going after a budy of mine that has a 1st gen ford lightning hes making 500 hp with loads of mods to include a
Vortech S-trim Supercharger, Edelbrock Victor Jr Aluminum Heads w/ stage 3 port & polish , Mass-Air, 2.5 exhaust w/ flowmasters, competition hedders, 65lb Injectors, boost control, 9.5 inch 2400 Stall Converter, shift kit, K&N filter, custom chip , factory 4.10 gears im not sure of the cam
but i think im may B a ford F cam.. ! his truck weighs about 5200lbs
Now i have an 85' Ford F-100 weighs 4200lbs.. ive got a 72' 429 V-8
Ive got the complete fuel injection system,Harness, intake, and Cylinder Heads from an 89' 460 EFI (E7TE) Heads.. Im currently having the heads done to include some bowl work, New 2.25 Intake and 1.76 Exhaust valves
(cobra jet/police valves) heads will be milled .030 ! i Have a Paxton Novi 1000 Super Charger, Ford 30lb (red) Injectors, adjustible fuel pressure regulator, BBk 61mm thottle body, Cam specs are 218/228 @.050 503/503 Lift 114 Lobe Separation. Trans is an E4OD with Factory Lo-Stall Converter, Trans-Go Shift Kit, Spiral OD Snap Ring, .421 Line Mod Valve
3.73 Traction Loc !!! I was wondering would i need more stall mayb 2000-2400 and would i better benefit from 4.10's .. all suggestions would be apprecited ..i will stay speed density and i am having a custom chip made as well..so it will be a fuel injected 429.. exhaust will be 2.5 with Gutted mufflers .not sure if i should go with hedders or not ..i will be using moly rings also... but wondering if i can stay with the stock pistons or would i need to switch to forged or hyperutectics!! but i want to out perform my friends lightning . plan on running 5-6 lbs of boost. can any one give an idea of what the Hp may look like in comparison

I would go for the forged pistons and the headers for sure. Might get by with the hyp pistons but why risk it and once you have 5 or 6 pound of boost it won't be long before you want more.

dont do gutted mufflers, if anything do straight pipes....gutted mufflers would lose more power and opposed to not having them at all....or do glasspacks, i had them on my 76 and they sounded great

Yes. The intake ports on the E7 and F3 fuel injected 460 are placed higher in the head and are more round than oval so you need to use the EFI intake, if you are looking for one, I have an intake and elbow I will not be using. The exhaust ports are raised and are more square. You likely will need to use truck manifolds or find some efi specific headers to fit. Porting these heads really helps, if you just put big valves in, you likely will not see any gain from it and could be come a detriment to flow. I'm sure the Mad Porter will have way more to say on that issue.

The E7 heads had some bowl work done and also had the intake ports opened up to port match the intake gasket .. as well as had them shaved .020... the Heads are now 90CC !! I will be polishing the intake and exhaust ports to include the combustion chambers .. ive also just purchased TRW Forged Pistons L2366F !!

As I understand, porting the intake helps a lot too. I forgot to mention, your injectors might be too small. Even for a supercharged 302, there on the small size.

what injector size would u recommend ? the 460 EFI comes wit the light blue top 24lb injectors.. i figured since the supercharged 3.8 TBird Supercoupe came with the Red Top 30lb injectors so i figured the 30lb red tops would be ok .. my friend with the 95' lightning has 65lb injectors in his 351w with vortech S-Trim .. and its way to much injector for his truck .i just didnt want the same issue he has .. he keeps sootted tail pipes and on whenu nail it on take off it rolls off and then comes alive .. but now dont get me wrong his truck runs it really fast but u dont feel the poer till after it rolls off u feel hadly nothing off line soon as u punch it .. he says it would darn near tote the front tires with when he had 30 something lb injectors in it .. that he went bigger causehedidnt want it to run lean .. ..

Sounds like your buddies truck need to be Dyno tuned. Forced induction is tuned to be richer that NA, even my WRX with stock turbo, injectors, and Tune has a sooty tail pipe, with 2 cats. I would guess 48lb or larger. I would talk with a tuner that has built EFI FI 460's on the injector size. You are right, you can go too big, but too small and poof, there goes your pistons. I know with 5.0 FI, 30's are too small, most start with 42's. It's all in the tune though, I'd start with finding a good tuner. Post on 460 Ford Forum - Powered by vBulletin and you'll find a few guy that know there stuff on FI EFI 460.
