my powerstroke did this a couple times on me a few monthes ago and then the problem went away now its back again and worse. ill be driving down the road truck running great then all of a sudden the truck will start cutting out, somtimes the tach will drop to 0 with the truck still in gear rolling down the road (5speed) other times the tach seems to remain steady. if im traving at an low seed about the only thing i can do to keep from it dieing compleetly out in the middle of the road is to floor it till it clears out, when i do this it billows out white/bluish smoke. i am thinking cps but the fact that sotimes the tach remains steady kinda throws me for an loop.
i have not scanned it yet, i had to leave town right after it started acting up again, took an company vehical, but i am heading back tomorrow, should be able to scan it monday
I believe p0472 is exhaust back pressure sensor (circuit low), and p0344 is cps intermittent error. To start with, I'd recommend looking into a new CPS; time to cash in on the Ford recall...
I haven't heard that, but that means nothing. I got a letter about both of my 97's, though. I would think that it would be covered... Either way, it sounds like the problem... If you're not covered by the recall, I think they're pretty reasonable for the updated part (like roughly $40 or something - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong)
interesting... are they different or did ford just cheap out?
The 94.5-96 uses a slightly different CPS than the 97-03. I think the only real difference is different metal used on the contacts. 94.5-96 CPS's are also still black, FWIW.
