Hi guys,
I have a 96 F350. A couple of day ago, the front gauge read zero. I had just filled the tank up, so I knew I had fuel. Switched to the rear gauge(tank also full), and the needle swings to FULL. Switched back to the front tank, swings to EMPTY.
I can toggle from one or the other and the fuel flows no problem, but it bugs me not to see how much I have in the front tank and don't want to run it dry. I did a search here to see if other member had a similar problem, no threads found. I check the manual to see if there is a specific fuse fro the front gauge, bu tdidn't see anything there. In the manual it says there is a power distribution box and several fuse are for the "instrument panel". Does anybody know if one is for the front gauge specifically? Where is the Power Distribution box located. I see where the fuse box is. Any help is GREATLY appreciated and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
you either need a level sending unit in the front tank or have a wiring issue between the tank and the selector vavle. Could also be that the arm is stuck on the front tank it might jar loose. or the float might have a whole in it and be more of a sink than a float.
Hi Guys/gals,
I am finally getting around to replace the fuel sending unit. I got the front tank empty, but are there any hints or tricks to get the sending unit out of the tank? I assume I have to drop the tank all the way and it comes out of the fuel hanger assembly, but how does the assembly come out of the tank? How does it come apart?
Thanks Cuda! Yeah, I just drove 200 miles on the front tank(bad sending unit), then switched over to the rear(good sending unit). There was a method to my madness
i looked at mine as i will be doing this soon. my unit is in the garage in its box lol. it appears to be there are some little mettal tabs on the rings that threads down to hold the unit in place. i dont have the removal tool so would a flat screw driver and a few taps from a hammer work?
A screwdriver and hammer will work if you clean it up and lube the lock ring. If it's badly rusted you will likely need a new lock ring when your done. The o-ring should always be replaced. Most auto part stores can get them.
