Abs!!!!!!

OK guys, Im stumped! I have an ABS light problem, speedo doesnt work, OD light on shift lever blinks and no cruise. I replace the speed sensor in the diff and that didnt take care of it. the trans shifts fine no problems there. I took it to a garage and had them scan it. scanner says "Does not detect Speed Sensor" and ABS fault also detected a KAM(not cam shaft) fault code too. Im stumped, any clues or ideas???????????????????????
By the way ita a 199 f250 4x4 powerstroke

would the wheel bearing units and sensors have anything to do with this? would that affect the speedo if the speed sensor is in the rear diff?

The sensors in the wheel may have something to do with this. What exact codes did they pull besides the P0603 KAM error? Maybe that will give us a hint.

if the sensor was somehow not seated all the way/or the pickup was somehow too far from the sensor then yes. But if the bearings were to be so bad for it not to get a reading, you would definitely know it.
I would start with checking the wiring from the sensor, as much of it as you can for cuts/kinks/chaffing/frays and all that good stuff.

The ABS assembly for each of the front hubs also has a speed sensor in it.

The sensors on the front wheels are soley for ABS function only IIRC, if something was to happen to either of the front 2, it would only light up the ABS light. It wouldnt affect the speedo or OD light like the rear would.

No speed sensor detected, and ABS failure

The new VSS could have been bad out of the box. That is normally the fix with the symptoms you have.

If you have the numbers for the codes they pulled, we could look them up for you and tell you what the manual recommends checking. (The codes are listed by number in the manual)

I would think chaffed wire somewhere else. I believe Scott had this issue before. I know someone did. I remember them mentioning a very very small crack in the wire pretty far away from the sensor.

That is not correct..

While live tuning in March, I had an ABS light on that has been on for awhile, but I ignored it. But I knew what the problem was. One of my front tires rubbed a hole in the FRONT left sensor cable. While Jody was with me, he was trying to change the shift points but the computer would not let him and we could not figure out why. Jody calls John Wood and explains what was happening. John Wood says the front ABS sensor are a Speed sensor and said to change it out. I went to Ford and purchased a new ABS sensor assembly and changed it. After that, my ABS light went off and Jody was able to make the changes without any problems.

No my speedo worked fine, but the speedo is controlled by the sensor in the rear diff.
