Okay, so the brake booster gets power from the the power steering pump and vacuum from the vacuum pump.
Thanks, Nick
All these abbreviations drive me nuts!
There is no vacuum involved with the brake and power steering system.

The brake "booster" is correctly referred to as a "hydroboost".
It gets its "power" from the power steering pump, same pump, fluid etc.
If you look at the booster you will see hydraulic lines going to it.
It does not work on vacuum at all.(most gas engines do though)
The only reason the diesels have any vacuum is to operate "controls".
Such as ESOF, a/c , heater door operation etc.
That being said,a few years ago, ford had a belt operated vacuum pump on the old 7.3 / 6.9 engines. Some of those (not sure what year they stooped),had a vacuum booster, just like the gas vehicles.
They have since gotten rid of the belt driven pump and vacuum booster, and have gone to electric vacuum pump, and hydraulic assist brake booster.
Soooo you may correct a brake problem by replacing the p/s pump.
Some people claim better braking after a power steering system flush.
Well guys i just got back from Les Schwab and they told me that it was my brake booster that is leaking. The funny thing they claim they can get the part that it is a Ford only product. Also they guy told me that if i replace the brake booster that i would also have to replace the pump. I asked that if i bought the part if they could install and they told me that they have never done a diesel and didnt know how long it would take and would have to charge me by the hour. So what do you guys recommend i do?

I would not let that shop work on your truck. If they don't know that the pump and booster are different systems, then they will most likely cost you more money. If you can't do the work yourself, I would find a shop that knows our engine. Good luck.
I think that i can do the work myself but i am afraid of all the bleeding of the brakes and all that stuff. I am going to be towing with it so i dont wan to mess with the brake system.
Well I'm semi close. About 4.5 Hours away from you but I didn't replace mine. I took it to a local shop here. The lead mechanic is a X Ford tech. He didn't like the way Ford ran things and got tired of charging people for BS stuff so he started his own shop. He pulled mine and replaced it within an hour. The most expensive part of the ordeal was the part itself, $260 or so, labor was $65 if I remember right but I also had them fix a bushing under the truck that was rattling and driving me crazy.

If you replace the booster,no need to bleed the brake system at all.
Well i called the ford dealership today and i am getting a reasonable price on replacing the brake booster. I just wan to make absolutely sure that it is the brake booster. I checked my power steering fluid and it was kind of low, so refilled it and the power steering noise went away for about 3 weeks. The noise started up again so i refilled the the power steering pump again. Well i cheked and i have a leak by the brake booster. Am I safe to say that it is my brake booster that is bad right?
