tranny leaking
i have a 1993 ford ranger splash 4.0 5 speed manual transmission. it is leaking near the drive shaft. is it hard to change the seal that is in there. does anyone know what the steps are to doing it?
someone told me you can do it yourself? how much tranny fluid will leak out when i doit? what is the best stuff to replace it with /

the Mazda 5 speed in your Ranger and they are notorious for leaking
from the shift rail plugs on top of the transmission. After they
get older they tend to shrink and start to leak when underway. I
would check this first before tearing into the driveshaft seal. You
can replace the rubber shift rail plugs by removing the shifter
boot and carpet (or rubber mat), then removing the access plate from
the hump on the floor. The 3 rubber plugs are near the rear of the
tranny on top. They are available from Ford for a couple bucks each.
