I was trying to decide wheather to go with aluminum heads or cast iorn. They are going on a daily driver and i was worryed about the long term strength of alumunmum heads. I want some second oppinions.
Its going to be used off road haulin wood and other stuff. There aint much done to the motor yet. I want to decide what i am going to do before i start buying anything especially if im puting on different heads.
The big benefits of aluminum are lighter weight and the ability to run higher compression. The downsides are corrosion from dissimilar metals and less durability under detonation. There are some manufacturers offering iron and aluminum heads that are identical except for the materail, so it's not necessary to to buy aluminum to get performance. I selsected iron heads for my 351 because it is a truck motor, saving a little weight on the motor really doesn't mater, and the iron heads were $250 cheaper than the aluminim versions.
