I have a 72 ranchero w/Ford 9" rear. I want (need) to replace wheel bearings etc. Dones anyone make a kit that has every thing in it to do a complete rear overhaul? Also any reccomendations on mfg. on 3.80 gears?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Sep-02 AT 09:53 PM (EST)] I was at Checker the other day getting a yok seal and the parts guy asked if I wanted a rebuild kit it was $$. Also Ford did come out with 3:73 gears stock you might just get a 3rd member and gears for 1 price I get a smiley when I use the number 7 seven and dont know why
If memory serves me right, Summit has what you need.
They have a few different overhaul kits in their catalog and a couple different ones with bearings. I do not have the catalog in front of me, but you can go to their website and check it out.

I prefer summit over jegs because the parts are always early and the people are nice, oh yea, and the prices are better than jegs on some stuff.
I am rebuilding a nine inch for my 1974 ford four wheel driveI just pickup. Last week I picked up an install kit for a 9 inchand even thought I explainedto theparts man taht I had a big 9 inch he still gave me thwe wrong one. The stadard 9 inch install kits do not come with a big enough bearing for the N rear end and you can't really see it until teh bearings come out. I had to drive back ona 100 mile trip to exchange the bearing and he actedlike he never saw a bearing like that in a nine inch rear. So just be aware that one size does not fit all 9 inch rears. I ended up having to take the old bearings to the axle shop to have them match them up. Most were the same but one was substantially larger than the stock install kit. (an additional $16.00 bearing) Good luck. The new bearings are going in this afternoon hopefully.
