Does anyone know of a cheaper rear disk conversion kit? This is the only one I've found that seems to fit but it's about 200 more then most kits. Thanks
It is likely more expensive because it does have the GM brake calipers with built in E-brake. Essential for any street vehicle. You get what you pay for.
But I mean this has the ebrake but it's for 5x4.5 bolt pattern. It seems the only difference is bolt pattern yet the price is $200 less for 5x4.5 vs 5x5.5
Everyone says to swap the rear because it's cheaper, but idk if it actually is cheaper, I can get this kit for $550 plus 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 adapters, that are only 3/4" thick for $100 so for 650 I have the the whole rear done with brand new brake pads, rotors, and calipers. Also lines and ebrake cable.
If I buy a rear end, I don't know the condition of it, plus I'm sure it'll need all new brakes, so 200 for the rear, then another probably 300 for all new brakes. So 500. Then I have to weld be spring perches and shock brackets. And figure out the pinion angle and idk, does the drive shaft and ujoint bolt right on?
I see what your saying, I've been having a hard time even finding an explorer rear near me. Also, I have crown Vic wheels, will they fit ok with an explorer rear or will they be way under the wheel wells and look stupid
I just looked, that looks like a nice kit. But it's $650 so 100 more then the one I feel is too expensive. Thanks!

You do realize the contradictions in your statements above, right?
No I don't, if I buy the kit for 650 I still need the adapters for another 100. What I'm saying is the kits for 5x5.5 are about $200 more then the kits for 5x4.5 I've been looking for an explorer rear on Craigslist for about a month and I haven't found anything except one that is two hours away for $300
Do you have fabrication skills or are you looking for a bolt on kit? If you have fabrication skills and have a pull-a-part near by you should be able to get a 8.8 there with the disk brakes you need for less than $150. You should be able to have the rotors redrilled for the 5.5 bolt pattern. There are several places online with directions on doing the conversion.
Well I already did a CV front swap. So I need the 5x 4.5 , I can do some fabricating. I may go to Harry's u pull it tomorrow and take a look. How to I get the right angle when I weld the spring perches on?
