It's fun guessing but the bottom line is that this frame will not work for a pick-up, as is, for either an F1 or an F3.
With the bed centered over the rear wheels (that is IF the bed will fit on top of this frankenframo), and F3 bed (the 8 Ft Express Box) is going to be 2 inches too long at the back of the cab, and the F1 bed (6 1/2 ft Pick-up Box) is going to be 2 1/2 inches too short behind the cab (assuming that the wheel wells are centered on the bed - which IS NOT a good assumption)
You will not be able to fit the box, or running boards. So if you have the time and money to turn this mess into a BIGGER "fracatta HASH JOB" it would be MUCH MUCH better to do it the right, easier, probably safer, and less expensive way and buy one of the two frames mentioned for sale here. Especially if you are talking about a MII IFS, etc. (and the 9" rear end you don't know you are going to install yet).
i'm gonna have to go with julie on this, at first it seemed cool that you already have A-arms and a c-notched frame, but shes right, the beds not gonna line up with the cab or running boards.
but hey, even if you get yourself a frame, i'd keep that 289.(and the 9inch you dont know your goin to install).
OBTW, I did my math wrong a in post 46, I averaged the difference when I shouldn't have....The F3 bed will be 4 inches too long and the F1 Box 5 inches too short.
289 is a really nice motor for our trucks. I had one in my 55 with a 3spd overdrive!
Well just got in and it seems yall have covered quite a bit since I last checked....You will be please to know I just left a mans house who is working on f1 and he showed me his...Four link suspension,351 w., and sort of some things to think about...He also pointed me the same direction you guys have and gave me diretions to F1 frame for sale.
There is another thing come along also, I have found a 68 mustang that is apart...It has had the underneath sandblasted and painted, and most of the other body work done, but more importantly it has the 351 windsor with receits on the build, it just needs valve covers water pump and carb...It can be bought for under 2,000.00 . I thought that would be a good deal if the only thing I did was swap the motors and sell the car...what u think? should I just stay with the 289
and also, that man I talked to tonight said that my truck might have a 9 inch rearend already, how do I tell...Thanks so much for all the advice it is really helping
Well, it would probably cost you $1200 to have a long block rebuild on the 289 anyway, so if you can justify the additional $800 for the Mustang, then ok, but I don't think you will see a terrific increase in performance in the 351W (probably my favorite engine in our trucks) and parts should be equally available.
Take a look at your rear end and see if ther is a little metal tag on it about 3/4 inch x 2 inches attached to the front cover adjacent to the drivers side axel. If you find one, let me know what the letters and numbers are on it and I will tell you if it's a 9"
