I changed out the OEM rear diff in my Lightning when it started slipping bad. I went with the Detroit True-Trac clutchless rear diff.

It's a geared differential so it won't wear out like a clutched design will.

Interesting. Never heard of powermax. The more torque you can get to the LS or Posi the better they work. Mine always smoked both tires with Ford and Chevy. That test in the vid doesn't give them a chance to lock up due to the extremely low friction coefficient on those rollers.

They all can wear out if not treated right. The LS and Posi diff will last a long time with the proper fluid. Clutches can chatter and wear out without the proper friction modifiers in the oil and the discs are cheap also. I never wore a set of clutches out. Ford and Chevy make a special gear oil for those units and I imagine it gets repaced with the wrong stuff.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply they wouldn't wear out. Everything mechanical eventually wears out.

I was saying they won't wear like a clutch design does. The geared design is better and will last longer before wearing out when compared to an OEM clutch design.

Actually the clutch design will last quite long with the right oil and I think it's debatable but I don't want to debate it.

The true-trac actually impresses me quite a bit. They are proven to hold 6-700 rear wheel horsepower launching on the dragstrip and being quite reliable at that level. Above that they become a little questionable but some are running em upwards of 9-1000 RWHP. At that level you usually need a detroit locker or a spool as the friction setups just can't hold the power at those levels. Honestly not sure just how long the true trac's will last, but short of someone exploding one I have yet to hear of a failure. All that said though my camaro is spooled lol.
