i want to replace my gas pedal and the linkage in my 58 f-100 what have some of u guys used ,i was thinking i might find a later model truck and rob the whole pedal link and pedal asssmbly something like a mid 70,s truck what do u guys think
Yep, use any newer type with a cable (get it as well) , most will mount Ok, sometimes have to heat and bend (after removing the plastic parts). OR you could go with the $ 100.00 plus floor mount billet aftermarket ones.
I got these off ebay just search accelerator pedal all three was less than $90 if I remember correctly they look just like the one Lokar has, I think the gas pedal was $39, brake, $20 & $10 for dimmer switch.
I used one off of a 77 f-100 perfect bolt up mechanical linkage to the carb. I had to shorten the pedal end of the rod, I cut a section out of the middle and welded it back together.
When settling on a gas pedal, also make sure all the other controls 'fit' you..
I learned to drive before drivers-ed in school, so I learned to drive with two feet..it was a natural thing for me,but today I think people are taught to drive with one foot only..and to remove the accell before pushing the brake..?? Seems like alot of lost time to me but hey, what do I know? Be sure you can reach the gas pedal with comfort and control, for cruzing you want to be able to smoothly accell and de-cell..a smooth transition is the key word here..the linkage needs to travel with no binding, jerking or sudden movements and be sure you can get to the brake pedal quickly and that it is not interfering with control..or that your feet get stuck under the controls somehow.
If the seat you plan on using is mounted all the better, now you can get the feel for where things should be..mirror placement, adjustment, turn signals, arm out the window, hood clearence (seat Height),throttle, brake etc...In short, make it fit YOU!
