''51 Gas pedal linkage & parts.....am I missing something?
Hi guys,
My shop manual has no detail in this area....nor does the illustration in the LMC catalog.
I'm putting together my transmission cover (1951) and have begun to attach the gas pedal system to it. I think I'm missing something, let me explain...
OK, for parts I have on hand and I believe to be stock: I have the original pedal itself and the two screws that hold the pedal to the trans cover, the rubber floor boot, the 'Z' bar that mounts to the firewall, bellcrank and two linkage rods (a short and a long one) .
What keeps the pedal from flopping around? The pedal has two threaded studs underneath it. What goes there and what are they for?
The end of the 'Z' linkage has a springy ball stud at the end that doesn't seem to fit into the pedal.
I'm stumped as to how to connect the pedal to the 'Z' linkage and what springs I'll need to get the whole connection from pedal to carb to move and return as designed.
I'd appreciate any photos, references and spring locations or other related info.
I have a stock 6-cylinder if that matters.
The previous owners of the truck rigged up some crap and I'm returning the truck to stock configuration. I never saw what it looked like originally.
Thanks in advance, Tom in Maine

Thanks Bill,
You are correct and also a wonderful source of information. I appreciate all the time you take to answer our questions and provide source data.
My nexxxxxttttt question that arises for anyone has to do with the Throttle control and cable that is on the dash. Back in the day...what was this used mainly for? The operators manual on page 17 says .."to set the engine at any given speed".
I can understand if a truck had a PTO, but if it didn't - was it a poor man's cruise control or something to adjust for altitude, winter warm up, or simply to have another **** to mess with?

On the far left side of this pic in the center next to the speedo cable, you'll see the location of the cotter pin, its head is empty, as this is taken before I knew how the return spring was supposed to be attached (the PO obviously didn't either).
