Sounds like the link from the vacuum servo fell off or broke. I had the same on my 84 and its been some time since I fixed it. Check for vacuum to all servos you can get to. I recall with no vac to the controls its usually blows on defrost. The temp blend door is cable controlled not vacuum controlled.

My blend valve broke. I need defrost so I taped blend valve closed. I now only have defrost and floor but I'm ok with it.

A popular part to fail on these trucks is the blend door. The hinge breaks and prevents it from going to the default position of defrost. Some have fixed it by installing small brass hinges. I chose to remove the dash ducting, and taped a piece of cardboard over the hole to direct the air. At least now I can choose between the floor and defrost. The A/C never worked and I dont care for the hot air blowing directly at me anyhow.

Thanks, That just might be whats wrong with mine, rod moves but does nothing to air flow.

I don't like hot air blowing in my face either so I stuffed rags in them!

My 84 F250 only had heat option, I got all ducts and parts for AC, installed but never got the AC system working. I do rember that broken hinge now, but the vac lines were a pain as there was no diagrams for it. Once I get a better cab swapped over, the AC will work! Florida summers are getting hotter and hotter nowdays...

If you have a vacuum leak at the vacuum can thingy under the hood on the passenger inner fender or there is another leak in that particular vacuum source, you will only have airflow coming out of the defrost ducts. Think smaller sized beef stew can... these vacuum cans rust out. Pull the vacuum line off that can and plug it once to see what if anything changes.

Eddiec1564 your cable op statement doesn't apply to A/C equiped trucks. ladelld33, I have the exact same issue and found the tin can (VRESER) is definately the problem, has a hole in it. Found this searching...

Ok, that cable controls the heat blend door. The rest is vac controlled. Its been 10 or more years since I replaced my heat only dash ducts/control over to AC/heat ducts and controls. I do know on my 89 F250 truck it has the same system as the 84. But the 87 truck I stripped had only vac control going to the recir door only. The rest was cable operated. I had to replace the 89 dash as the prevous owner was a hack up repair guy, the 87 dash/ducts and AC control, main wire harness was installed to fix his mess.

I still have not found any diagrams for the vacuum system for the AC controls. Anybody have a factory manual to scan in for all of us here?
