Petronix gap reccomendation.

I am finaly getting a petronix flamethrower coil and was currious to see hat a reccomended setup would be regarding plug gap.

1964 F100 292 4spd
Stock cam, dizzy, and C0AE heads. Stock comp ratio. Holley 390 on a 1957-B intake.
I have installed a petronix 1 brakerless ignition. Am now running .036 gap.
Will install flamethrower 1 coil.

Does .040 sound about right.

Flip, most guys with the flamethrower coil and Pertronix ignition run .040 plug gap.

Yes they are a great bunch of guys, and so here too. Almost everyone here knows the site well, and posts here as there. Perhaps one difference is that this small FTE gathering does dwell on the engine. I notice on the y'sforever site, first tech. page, there are subjects...Bumper rust, oil residure on tire, brake mc, gas tanks, cooling fan, 9 in rear, and mechanical tach repair. No problem but it does get cluttered.

Also, there appears to be an overload on the high performance end, which many cant afford or use, and doesnt suit the truck group well. While saying that I know Charlie and others have very high performing trucks, but it still doesnt fit the main. So thankyou, but I like FTE AND y'sforever.

It is nice to have you drop by.

Kinda a rough weekend. Fishtailed my uncles car trailer into the ditch on the interstate. Ruined the fender on the trailer and chewed up my taillamp on my 85 F150 in the process. Threw a 1970 LTD into the ditch. Poped both psg side trailer tires off the rim.

We finished rolling the car off the trailer using a 6' prybar and a handyman jack. punched a hole in the fender using the prybar. Pulled the fender up enough to get the tires on. remounted the tires. Hand loaded the LTD with one flat and finaly got her to the farm.
. Finaly I got to fire up my 64. Wont start.................Accelerator pump arm came off the lever. Fixed it, runs great.

I tuned the carb a bit today. Runs sweet. Though It ran terribly rich on the psg bank for a bit this morning. Cleared up on its own so I may need new wires.

By the way. If anyone is looking for a running 390 or a 9" rearend. I will trade for a replacement fender for the car trailer.

Finaly got the coil in and hooked up. Bypassed the resistor wire. Wow!

Lot better throttle response and a quicker warm up. Softened the exhaust note considerably too. The ignitor gave it getup and go. The coil and gap gave it smoothness and ease.
Now to buy a spare set of points in case my GM one wire burns up the ignitor. 14.7 V is a lot of juice in a primary.

14.7 is about normal and should not harm the unit. But carrying a spare set of points and condenser is a good idea.
