The fact that he put a non Mercon SP fluid in your truck and admits to it makes him liable for any damages. If your truck was under warranty with Ford and he changed the fluid at 20,000 miles with a non SP your transmission would be void of any future warranties. He must accept responsibilities. JMO
I drove the truck around the block after letting it sit and completley cool down and it ran and shifted ok, you could tell it wasnt all there when lacing in to it but it shifted.
The tow truck just came and picked it up (it just fit on the flatbed and they tow truck driver said its the biggest thing he has had up there!!!)
Im hoping to get it back soon and have it be running right!!!
What do some of you other guys think? Can the fluid be changed and save the transmission or you think its toast??
My truck sat at the mechanics shop ALL DAY and he didnt even look at it. Im sure he is going to drain the current non SP fluid and fill it with SP fluid.
If he does and it shifts ok is there a way i can make him give me a warranty for a year or something? I dont want him to change the fluid and have it run right for a week or a few weeks or even a few months and then die due to what it was put threw.
If the transmission is slipping and slamming into gear and having issues will it go away when he changes the fluid back to SP?
Like I said in an earlier post, i like this guy and i dont want to screw him in any way shape or form i just want my truck right and im really nervous im gonna get the short end of the stick!! He is a good honest guy and runs a reputable business so im sure he is not out to get me.. Plus he told me he will do whatever it takes to make it right.
He mentioned changing transmission fluid in hundreds of F250's, diesel amd gas and he used the same transmission fluid (non SP) in all of them and he has never had a problem. What would cause this? Is there something specific about my truck that makes it different?
This Forum (and several others) have the benefit of a transmission expert (ex TorqShift design engineer) that looks over most of these types of threads. He has told us MANY times: Mercon SP ONLY - anything else and you will damage your transmission. I do not believe that Mercon V was put in hundreds of TorqShift tranny's and yours was the only one that was damaged. He either has not put the fluid in other TorqShift's or there are more damaged units out there where the owner did not figure out the root cause.
I would ask for at least a one year warranty - so that if anything breaks, he will fix it for free during that time period. That way you can try it out for a reasonable time after he flushes it and puts in the proper fluid.
As I said before - make sure he has the proper flush equipment (ie heated).
We are not just being super conservative or blowing smoke. The advice is accurate and critical to reliability.
BTW - do you ever run another type of tuner besides the SCT? Because if you did ever run one of several brands, I will have to say "nevermind" to the 1 year warranty request.
If you use non-SP in a torque-shift, it WILL die!!! Period! Hope you don't mind if we use this thread to show others that want to save-a buck on SP flushes at the dealer.....
Good luck to you sir, hopefully things will turn out well for you.....Oh, get it in writing.
Sorry to hear about this. This is why I don't pay 'friends of friends' to do any kind of work on anything be it my car or home. The little bit of $ you were saving can cost you 10x in the long run. Also another reason to stay clear of "lube shops". If I can't change the fluid myself, I'll let Ford do it so I know it's done right or they will pay to fix it.
I would most definately get a written warranty. A year might be tough to get but definately try for it.

I would say that if you run ANY type of tuner you take care of any repairs. How can you say that the wrong fluid damaged the trans or the turner damaged the trans? Either one is capable of doing a lot of damage to the trans.

Thank you for the advise very much, I appreciate your help threw this mess... I have never run any tuner or major mods to the truck other than the SCT from Eric. I instaleld it in Feb (less thank 5,000 miles ago). It never slipped, slammed or showed any signs of issues until i had the fluid changed.

I dont mind at all, hopefully someone out there will learn from my mistake!!! I will keep you guys posted on how things turn out..
So they came and towed my truck from my house on Friday and they hav not even looked at it all weekend. They are ignoring my calls and im starting to get frustrated. Im going to be standing there when they open their doors tomorrow morning to see what the deal is with my truck.. On Friday they told me whatever i wanted to hear to get me out of there and then didnt do anyhting.
I will let you guys know what happnes tomorrow during the day...
Good luck to you. Make sure you get a sample of the fluid that comes out of your tranny to have an analysis done. That way you can prove that they put the incorrect fluid in and see how bad it really is.
