I ahve an 04 6.0 4 door short bed 4wd with 73K on it. I had the transmission flushed this morning. It shifted tight with no issues all the way back to work which was around 30 miles. I let it sit for 5 or 6 hours then took a 45 minute ride to pick up my powdercoated race car parts, as soon as I got back on the highway to head home it shifted from 1st - 2nd then wound way out to almost redline and fell in gear all easy like. It did the same up threw the gears. When i was on the highway i noticed it was running a little hotter than usual. When i got off the highway its doing the same thing and when it does shift it feels all sloppy. It used to shift hard and aggressivley. This is my daily driver so i would like to get it up and running asap.
The transmission is covered in the 10yr 100k warranty correct? Should I bring it in and have the dealer look at it?
im not sure if it was SP but i saw it said Mercon on it. The dealer told me to make sure it was Mercon SP. I remember asking the guy when he was doing it and he told me it was a way for the dealer to mark up their transmission fluid and sell it to you for $9.00 a quart.. Should i go up there?
i feel like i got shafted, i ppaid the guy cash and didnt get a receipt... He is a friend of a friend.. He has an F250 so i assumed he knew what he was doing!!! DO ALL F250's use SP or just Diesel's?
The transmission is covered only by the 3 yr 36k warranty. As all the good folks before me said: Verify what fluid the shop used. Sounds like it was just the regular Mercon V fluid - and that is not good. All 6.0L powerstrokes use only the Mercon SP.
I do not remember if the gas engine F250's came equipped w/ the TorqShift (I did not think so, but would have to go back and verify this).

Sorry to hear that. You best hope he is a stand up guy. Don't drive your truck.Torqshift 5r110w is sp only.
Also - if it does have the wrong fluid in it, you can ONLY flush it with a heated machine. You can not clear the torque converter without this type of machine.
So i went up to the garage and spoke with the owner. He is going to tow my truck from my house to his garage either tonight or tomorrow morning. He insists they flush out the non SP fluid and try to flush in the sp fluid to see if the transmission shifts ok then. He told me he has done hundreds of SD Powerstrokes and NEVR had an issue with any of them. He has been using non SP transmission fluid on all of them. Did he just get lucky with them not blowing up? Is there something different about my truck (year or miles or something else)?
He told me he has a close friend that runs a reputable transmission shop and he will do whatever it takes to make it right so I feel better about the situation.
The only problem I have with it is, what if he flushes it and it shifts ok for a couple weeks then dies? Should it be his responsibility to rebuild the entire thing? I dont want to bone the guy but i do what my truck to be right....
