well took my truck into the dealership for overheating and puking and they are telling me they need to do the head gaskets...
I am going to ask them to install ARP studs...we'll see how that goes. will they sweat me much for asking to install them? and where is everyone getting there ARP's? can the dealership get them? and what's a fair price to pay for the studs?
are there any better head gaskets then factory ones?
is there anything else I should have them look at or do while they are in there? truck is still under the 100k...
buy them your self and i think beans diesel is in the 400 dollar range shipped. the ford factory gaskets are all they will cover under waranty. the factory hg are pretty good the stock bolts are not. you should ask about a egr delet while your at it. some dealers will do it
You have all this ! :
Mbrp turbo back exhaust, Airaid intake w/zoodad mod, Banks PDA ottomind, Warn 12,000lb winch w/hide a winch bumper, BFG AT's, Pioneer Navigation w/ XM, reverse camera, 10" JL audio sub, 15% tint, reverse lights (aka A-hole lights)
um yea...
actually minus the banks PDA...I junked all that junk after I bought the truck last year, I didn't want HG issues but now I have them anyway with the stock computer...go figure
and add a 6" procomp lift on 35" tires...lol need to update the sig...
I was under the impression the EGR was for smog reasons and no dealer would remove it...? besides I haven't wanted to mess with modding the engine due to it being under warrenty still...will they still warrenty with the EGR delete?
after the warrenty is up it's on with engine mods!! but I only have 45k on the clock now...gonna have to wait.
EGR is a emmission (EPA) issue, brought in with the 2003 PS. Ford don´t warranty the engine with EGR removal even though the EGR only creates claims and cost for them.
If they where smart buisnessmen the would not reject such a mod. I have a 2007 F350 CC and it had only 1K when I removed the EGR and installed the ARP and SCT tuner.
I am 99% convinsed I will neer have an issue with the PS at least for the next 5 years. I realy like it. I also have few more mods. You have to get the ARP, its a must.
I had the dealer do my ARPs and EGR delete. They all so suggested the EGR delete and head coolant lines.
You MUST get the heads checked out for flatness and pressure tested to ensure a good long lasting job. It will cost you a few hundred (not covered under warrenty) but it HAS to be done.
I took my truck in Monday for poor engine performance. When I described the problem to the Service Advisor, Smiley, he responded, "That sounds like it could be the head gasket problem." I was actually releived to hear this because I've been getting the run-around from a different, and very dishonest dealership. It was good to hear from a competent SA that didn't immediately try to deny that the problem exIsted.
Anyway Smiley proceeded to tell me that they may have to remove the cab to access the motor, etc. I was familiar with this from reading lots of posts here. BTW, THANKS FELLOW FTE MEMBERS, lots of helpful info here.
I asked him if they could put ARP studs in. And before I got a chance to say that I'd be willing to provide the studs, he stated that the new kit that Ford provides now includes head studs that are at least as good as ARP studs. He even went so far as to say that he has recommended to those that have brought in ARPs to just go get their money back.
It turns out that they only replaced the "EP Sensor" and Oil Cooler. I hitched up my utility trailer and went to work yesterday. And on the way home on the interstate my Powerstroke "coughed" again at around 70mph. So the problem isn't fixed. I've only got two weeks of warranty left, so I've got to get this truck squared away quick. I'll start separate thread later as per the "how to ask for help" instructions for my particular problem. I don't want to hijack this thread.
Has anyone here heard about Ford's kit having better studs than ARP these days?
And are there really Ford Service Centers that have deleted the EGR? Was it covered under warranty?
Anything is possible, but I have not heard of Ford providing headstuds. In fact, all I have heard is the opposite (that they do not). I would stick w/ ARP studs - they are proven to work! At a minimum, ask to see the Ford supplied studs to make sure you are getting what they are promising.
I gotta take it back in soon. I'll try to get Smiley to give me a part number on those studs. I feel like he's a pretty straight shooter, I hope I've got a honest Service Advisor / Service Center this time.
well I talked to the dealership and they agreed the ARP's are a good idea and that they would install them for me! talked to the tech and for a couple cases of beer he'd install them for me! So I found a shop here local in So Cal from ebay Top end Performance that had them in stock for $400. going to drop the studs off at the dealership tomorrow and hopefully I will have my truck back sometime next week!
they don't want to do the EGR delete...but oh well atleast i'm getting the studs put in and a updated egr cooler hose because mine was leaking.
