All models of the 09 F150 require a programmed transponder (PATs) key to start. You can buy a key (with a chip), have it cut, then program the truck to accept it. The procedure is in the owner's manual.
I did it with a Fusion key off ebay. Its very quick and easy.
Thank you for the answer. Is the Fusion key a different type? I heard that one mentioned on another forum.
This is my first new vehicle and these things are all new to me.
I foundit on Ebay and through a little searching n forums. Ihave ordered my truck with remote start, so I am not sure if it will work for me. I have only seen the lock/unlock, trunk and panic buttons on them. Thanks again fro the input.
ok thank you. At least I know that I need the transponder key. after my truck comes in I will probably buy one off ebay(a lot cheaper than getting it through the dealer)
My local Lowes has the regular transponder keys. They even had a little electronic gizmo that confirms your existing key has one embedded. I dont recall the exact cost of their replacement but I believe it was less than $15.
