Question replacement key fob remotes?

we just bought our expedition this week. its an 01 EB. It didnt come with any type of key fob remotes, and the two keys that it did come with aren't "official" ford keys. They are some sort of aftermarket key, they look the same, and appear to have the security chip or whatever it is inside it is. My question is, after seeing remotes on ebay for $15-20, would they be compatible with my truck? I'd hate to buy one for an 01 expedition, only to find out it doesnt have the "brain" or whatever it is in the truck itself.

Thanks! Brian

If it's an EB, it came standard with the keyless remotes. If you're concerned about obtaining the incorrect model remote, you may want to hit www.keylessride.com which allows you to select the correct (new) keyfob based on make, model, year, VIN. Price? $38 plus shipping. They will also provide you with directions for programming, although you could also pick that up on a search of this site.

I picked up a pair of remotes for my father's Bonneville from this company. They were factory and worked perfectly once I programmed the car to accept them.

I'm pretty sure the 98-02 Expys (and many other Fords for that matter) used the same remotes. I looked around Ebay and found some that are identical to mine for $5.00 (used, but who cares). Why not buy one of the least expensive units and program it? I'd bet dollars to donuts it works.

I got an extra one off E-bay for about 11 bucks, and it works great. Beats the heck out of paying the dealer for one.

I also bought an additional FOB on ebay for about $10-$15 soon after I got my expy. Just reprogrammed both remotes at the same time. Works great.

taurus key fob works

I know my 04 ford taurus fob works on my 01 Expedition. The trunk button does not work though as it probably shouldn't
