Well, I have a Delta that I'm pretty happy with. I have the model that opens all the way across. I've had the ones with the doors on both sides, but it's tough to get long items in and out, and tough to reach things in the middle.
what ever you get do not get a plastic one. i got one from my bro. (free) but it never lached right and it would flex a lot. also not a lot of security.
umm it was an option from ford stock, they dont make them anymore, you have to find a truck with one and cut it out and have it welded back into your truck. is your truck a long bed or a short? it was much more comon in long beds dont eve know if it came on short beds or not. but it is about 2 feet deep about 2 feet wide and about 8 ot 10 inches tall, it mounts under the bed out side the frame and has a door that opens down from the bed side.
Ive got the 8 foot long bed. it looks like someone tried to cut a door into the bed where the in-bed box might have been. ive seen pix of the stock tool box door, and the one thats been cut into my bed is not that.
Do not get the plastic ones unless you do not care about security. Bought mine at Lowe's aluminum, I cleared coated it to keep the new look, makes it easy to clean without having to polish it for my 2001 ford truck, it is the slim, with one lid that locks from one end, Works great for me. My 72 ford truck has the optional side little tool box, it is was a great option that I wish it would of been available in 2001. Only problem, you can't fit a circular saw in it.
The "Husky" and "Cobalt" ones from Home Depot or Lowe's work well, I like the one with a single door....but be careful not to overload it, if you cram it shut too much it will rip all the "pop-rivets" out of the piano hinge along the back....Mine is still sitting in the garage waiting for repair...lol
Also, if you have the secondary tank filler that comes up inside the bed, like mine, you have to mount it over to one side...it will not fit in centered, due to the metal corner cover....it's not alot, but if you're a stickler for symmetry, you will notice....a shallower box might fit centered in that situation....
I have to agree with Jowilker. With the prices of new tool boxes going for about the same amount of money as a whole beater truck...I would even scour Freecycle or some junkyards for a good deal before I drop a couple hundred up to five on a new box. I even bought a toolbox, grille guard, AND headache rack for an 80s C/K for $10 on EvilBay. Local pickup, no one else bothered to bid, it was 5 miles from me at the time. I sold the brush guard for $60, the tool box for $50, and I never got around to installing the headache rack when I sold my '71 so I left it laying in the bed for the new owner to play with. $100 profit? Yeah, I don't buy a lot of things new I guess, and a tool box is just that, a box for tools, it's not going to stay pretty long.
Hey, SuperBeaner, glad you liked it, I luv my cats, but they can sure get violent when you don't feed them what they want, LOL, turned out better than I thought on i-movie. I did not expect the fast animation though, it's missing the smoke, it did not come out. Yes the one from lowes, Kobalt you cannot overload with lots of heavy stuff, if you do the door will get stuck if a tool gets caught up on the closing bar inside.
