hey guys! I have a buddy that has an 08 regular cab long bed v10 and he wants exhaust... he was looking at the MBRP 4" system, my question is will the kit fit an 08 even though it says 99-05? How would it sound? any power loss? Thanks in advance!!
Tom
Its highly unlikely the exhaust for 99'-04' trucks will not fit. 05'up F-series have a completely different manifold, exhaust system and cat setup that its predicessor.
Tell him NOT to put the MBRP exhaust on his truck. It may look cool and be constructed well and maybe even sound good to some people but thats about it. The MBRP is a diesel exhaust which is way to big. He'll lose low end power and most likely mid range power also due to the exhaust being WAY too large. He'll probably eventully get tired of the loudness and drone also. The biggest exhaust system I would advise putting on is the Banks cat-back with just a 3.5" tailpipe only but Banks is not the best sounding exhaust out there for the V10. When it comes to exhaust bigger isn't always better. I guess MBRP didn't get the memo on that one.

This is based on???
Mine actually feels like I have improved throttle response.....

My experience with several exhaust configurations on 2 V10s as well as common sense. Also past threads on the MBRP system
A 4" single is good up to around 500hp on a 6.0l pushing well over 30lbs of boost. A NA gasoline engine needs to maintain velocity so it scavenges, a force fed diesel does not and thats what the exhaust was designed for. A catback exhaust isn't going to yield much gains in anything stock but you can actually hurt performance in certain areas with exhaust too.

The exhaust on '08 and up trucks is completely different than the '05-'07s and the '99-'04s. A kit made for one will not bolt on to another.
I would say FlowMaster delta flow or big block series or Magnaflow. 99-04 exhaust may need a little fab work to fit 08 and newer so.... buy mufflers and build your own system or just buy things that go to the year he owns. I say build your own.
At least your happy with it, guess thats all that matters.
Increased throttle response doesn't mean increased power. I can take out some of the lag in the pcm to make the gas pedal more responsive and it will do nothing to power output of the truck. The MBRP system is grossly oversize for the V10 ask anyone who knows anything about exhaust. I'd like to see the MBRP on the dyno to confirm as the seat of the pants deal is a poor way to test performance charactoristics. 2mpg from a cat-back is very hard to beleive.
And let us not forget that normal humans perceive loud vehicles to be "more powerful" than quiet vehicles.
Decades of engineering and thousands (millions?) of dyno tests have proven that bigger is not always better on NA gassers (except for rotary engines).
I also have not seen any "objective" dyno figures on the MBRP.
Based on every other scientific dyno study I've seen, I would be shocked if the peak torque came even within 20 lb-ft of stock with a 4" pipe on stock or near stock V10. I would believe a bit more hp at peak rpm with a custom tune, but the area under the torque curve would be significantly reduced. Perfect if you are racing it.
