I tried to defeat a non-critical check engine light (DPFE sensor) by resetting my OBD, which worked for a bit, but then was told during a smog check that I failed due to the system being "Not Ready". So that's what I get for being smart I guess.
So I went and replaced my DPFE sensor (easiest fix ever, by the way!) and am wondering how long it will take for my OBD to reset, or become "Ready" so I can get my smog cert. It's been over 24 hours, and I've clocked about 250 miles, am I ready now?
most books say 10 (ten) cycles of start, run for a bit, drive for a bit, idle and shut down, especially after resetting the pcm by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes unless you can reset it with a code reader. different mixes of driving, say freeway, city, school zones, race track ( no, just kidding) Pending codes will remain for 20 cycles, so if it hasn't set the SES or CEL lights after 20 starts, it ought to be clean. go get a code reading done to see if there are any problems going on.
In my experiences, "not ready" has been caused by a not at operating temperature engine during smog.
