I know this may sound like a stupid question, butwhat is the ford xplan I keep hearing about? This is my first new truck so I have never gotten incentives or anything before. I just wasn't sure what t was or how to get it.
If you work for a supplier of Ford, they would be eligible to participate in discounted price for the purchase of a Ford Vehicle. Your employeer would have code you would give the dealer to obtain the discount. This is the X-plan price and is listed on the invoice for the vehicle.
X-plan is marketed as removing the hassle of neogatiating a price with the dealer by offering you one set price that is supposed to be discounted. I am not sure what the standard % is off the MSRP for X-plan.
There is also an A-plan price which is only for Ford employees who have a personal code for them. The A - plan is much more discounted than X-plan. The A-plan is also listed on the vehicle invoice.
Currently, most people are reporting that they are getting deals around the A-plan discount without having the personal code. With the additional incentives Ford is offering, you can 20% + off the MSRP right now.
I got mine 23% of MSRP, dealer sold it to me for A-plan w/o using the personal code. You have to shop though, not all dealers are willing to go there.
X plan is 0.4% below invoice. Ford sometimes offers additional rebates to X plan buyers. I got an extra 750 off when I bought my 07. So if you go the X plan route and you have a legit PIN, ask.
Yes plan pricing does remove the hassle of pricing of the new vehicle. It does not help you on the trade side. You've still got to play the same old games there. Plan pricing also limits the amount of money a dealer can charge you for "doc fees". It used to be they could not charge you any. Of course there are titling fee's charged by the state, but that's not a Ford thing. But do your homework on this part.
Some dealers will give you plan pricing without a thought. The dealer I buy from sells most of their vehicles at or below x plan pricing. So jumping right to x plan might cost you a few bucks if the dealer doesn't share that they sell for less.
I just purchased a new 2009 F150 Lariat 4x4 last weekend on the x-plan. Received the x-plan price (a few hundred below invoice) + another $5000 in incentives/rebates taken from the x-plan number not the MSRP. This got the price ~23% below invoice.
With X plan you are elligible for the same local and national incentives as everyone else is. However, from time to time Ford offers additional incentives, specific to X plan users. Be sure to ask your sales person to look for any/all incentives.
