Electronic mystery

This is a strange one folks.

96 Eddie Bauer loaded (like all of them) from the factory. VIN number tells me that it was the 372nd unit built. 5.8L, 3.55 gear ratio, super cooling, etc.

At one time shortly after I bought it used (52,134 miles) the interior light would stay on briefly when I got out - really nice. Then it stopped!

Recently replaced the temperature sensor pipe on the top of the thermostat unit and then the radiator. All of the sudden the interior lights once again remained on upon exit AND the door locks would lock when I cranked up and unlock when I stopped - really, really nice!

Replaced a battery that was cracked on the top and spilling fluid - now the damn doors don't lock/unlock and the light won't stay on.

Anyone know what's happening?

My 92 had the auto door locks (anti-hijack) feature of a Viper ESP alarm fitted. Not sure if a 96 had auto locking or not but it might be a 3rd party bit of kit?

Same for interior light extender.
